Moy claim Ratoath All-Ireland sevens

Tyrone side Moy – top heavy with some of the former and current stars of inter-county football overcame a young and talented Confey (1-12 to 1-11) in the final of the Ratoath Sevens Intermediate Football All-Ireland.

With nine All-Ireland medals, Seven All-Stars, a Texaco footballer of the year in their ranks it wasn't until the second group match that Moy got to grips with the seven-a-side game as 2011 champions Nobber, with Ireland's second highest scorer Brian Farrell in great form accounting for them in the first game.

Nobber were eventually stopped by Westmeath's Tyrellspass for whom Denis Glennon was in devastating form and all eyes were set on a Tyrellspass – who carried an equal number of county men – and Moy meeting in the final. However this notion was put to bed in a thrilling quarter-final as the dark horses from North Kildare booked their places in the final winning out on a scoreline of 3-13 to 3-10.

Moy however kept their part of the bargain being pushed to the pins of their collar by Skerries and easily accounting St. Teresa's of Antrim in Quarter and semi-finals respectively.

Confey drawn in the other semi-final with another Antrim team St. Mary's served up probably the game of the day in a six goal thriller, with the Leixlip club coming out on top.

So after seven and ahalf hours of duty, Seán Eiffe Park was left with two teams standing. Moy and Confey would contest the final. With neither team team showing much fatigue from the day's exertions the game started at a flying championship pace.

Seán Cavanagh blasted a first half goal after a thirty metre run – a half that also saw Moy goalkeeper Karol McQuade, stretchered off following a wonderful piece of bravery on both his own and the Confey man's part. Confey Rallied throughout and reeled Moy in often during the second half. It looked liked they had done enough to at least bring the tie to extra time when heroic captain Philip Jordon popped up with the winning point to take what he described in his victory as only his second club competition won in 15 years of playing and only fitting then that it be an All-Ireland one.
